DBacks make offer to Ramon Vazquez
Looking to fill a hole at second base, the Diamondbacks have made a contract offer to free-agent infielder Ramon Vazquez.

Details of the offer are unknown.

“We’re talking,” said Vazquez’s agent, Melvin Roman, declining further comment.

Something random and off-topic to take us through the weekend - we did this a couple of years ago and it was quite fun. Boot up your iTunes, Windows Media Player or whatever, and tell us about a dozen of the artists and/or songs you find there. They can be well-known or obscure; local, national […]

Bye bye to D’antona.
“The D-backs on Monday released infielder Jamie D’Antona so that he could sign a contract with the Yukult Swallows of Japan’s Central League… “I’m just going to go over there and see how it goes,” D’Antona said. “I think it’s going to be great. I’m looking forward to it. It’s a new experience, […]

Scottsdale courts D-Backs for spring training
“Spring is in the air in Scottsdale as the city expresses an interest in bringing the Arizona Diamondbacks in for spring training… Although the Diamondbacks have not contacted Scottsdale, city officials plan to talk to the team, Scottsdale spokesman Pat Dodds said. “We are going to contact the Diamondbacks organization to […]

That’s all I got. ;-) Anyone doing anything interesting today? Otherwise, a generally open thread to express thanks for whatever you feel needs thanking…
I’ll be back later, after a long, sustained period of munching on honey-baked ham.

Hopefully, Webb will maintain his […]

D-backs offer arbitration to trio
“The Diamondbacks offered salary arbitration to three of their five free-agent players hours before Monday’s deadline. Second baseman Orlando Hudson and relievers Juan Cruz and Brandon Lyon were offered arbitration, while outfielder Adam Dunn and left-hander Randy Johnson were not…”

The announcement of the arbitration - or not - offers seems like a good point to get down to brass tacks, and start discussing the 2009 Arizona Diamondbacks, You are Josh Byrnes. You have a total of $10m in addition to spend, over the entire roster. You have the following infielders under contract for the […]

The news that Adam Dunn was not offered arbitration caused something of a furore among Arizona fandom, though it seems clear the franchise simply couldn’t afford to take the risk of him accepting a hearing, with the $15m salary which would inevitably result. It’s also true Dunn was far from the only established player in […]
